Fun fact: I went to art school for 8 years straight. The first 4 years? A charter high school that I had to audition for. The last 4? Art college, whereโplot twistโI ended up getting a business degree (but thatโs a story for another day). During those years, painting was my medium of choice. I loved carefully setting up my painting space to prepare (aka, gathering supporting materials): Paints? Check. Canvas? Check. Easel (aka, a plastic chair on which I leaned my canvas while I sat on the floor)? Check. Clean brushes, paint palette, paint rag, paint clothes, paint water jar, drinking water jar (DO NOT confuse the two), reference photos, and my iPod with Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge by My Chemical Romance queued up. Check check check check check. Then - I was ready to lock into The Zoneโfocused, inspired, and in the flow. Some people in my industry (aka Systems & Operations) stick to strategy and hand things off, and hey, I get it. But thatโs just not me. I need to do both! Iโm a builder. A creator. A maker. And Iโm damn good at it. Though I donโt paint much anymore, I find the same creative energy in the backend of your Airtable, ClickUp, or Zapier setup. It's my new canvas. Right now, Iโm refining my offer to do what I do best for you: design and build custom systems that support your client journey. And to do that, Iโm rebuilding all the systems that power my business, tooโand youโre coming along for the ride. Last week, I shared my new version of "setting up my art space": Collecting Supporting Materials.โ โ Hereโs what building entails: ๐งฑ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐บ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฎ๐น๐ โ Making sure everythingโs in place, from new forms to package setups. ๐ ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ฝ ๐ฝ๐น๐ฎ๐๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ๐บ๐ โ I ensure all the necessary tools are in place, from Airtable to ClickUp, Zapier, Dubsado, and more. Each platform is carefully configured to align with the workflow. ๐ค๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฎ๐๐๐ผ๐บ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ am โ Step by step, I build out each part of the client journey. Some automations are quick, while others take a whole morning of trial and error (and maybe a little coding). ๐งช๐ง๐ฒ๐๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด โ I run through everything as both the client and the team. This phase is criticalโI always find something to tweak. ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ฃ ๐น๐ถ๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ฒ๐๐๐ฝ โ Once the systemโs built, I ensure your team has everything they need to run it. I document all processes and link SOPs directly to the related tasks so theyโre always accessible when needed. Ready to streamline your client journey and make your business run like clockwork? "One leg of my desk is shorter than the others and every day for the past fifteen years I've meant to wedge something under it, but every day my work is too urgentโI'm perpetually at a crucial turning point; everything is forever about to be revealed." I spent the entirety of my recent 7+ hour flight from Portland to NYC reading Miranda July's latest book "All Fours." (If you are into weird-girl-lit and haven't read any Miranda July - sprint to your nearest library!) I love the way Miranda's...
A break from our regularly scheduled programming, to gush about all of the IN PERSON biz bestie hangs I had last week <3 I felt so much community and care, experienced so much joy just talking shop with other business owners, and had a few big โAHAโ moments that will have a major impact on how I run my business. I am a virtual coffee chat queen, but there is something so different about being with each other in person. I started the day having breakfast with Jac White. I am REALLY excited...
Last week, I wrote an article ROASTING Monday.com. I received several responses by email and LinkedIn that validated my theories and claims ๐ I also received a few emails like this one, asking me what project management tool I DO recommend: FAIR. The unsatisfying answer: it depends. (You knew I was going to say that, huh?) Like all tools, it depends on a ton of factors, like: The size of your team The type of work you do Your budget Your goals And honestly, your vibes. BUT I won't leave a pal...
